Basketball, Class, Eat, Repeat

The entrance through the Wayland Arch to Hughes Court & the Ratty
I've been getting very used to this college life that everyone has always been talking so much about. Don't get me wrong I think that this program is amazing and I'm having so much fun, but I seem to be getting into a kind of rut. I wake up, get breakfast around 8 AM, go play basketball or workout from around 8:30 - 10:30, go back to the dorms to take a shower, eat lunch, go to class, hang out with friends, do some homework, and then write my blog. This seems to have been the pattern for the past couple days since my class started and, even though it's very fun, I don't really want to get stuck in it. I came to experience new things and meet new people, and I have done that, but I want to continue to do it over the entirety of the 3 weeks I spend here.

Despite my complaining, however, I have done absolutely nothing about this to try and change it. Today I did the same things I always do by starting out with the first 6 of the list I wrote above, in the exact same order. For this reason I feel like I'm running out of things to say in my blog and I don't want to let you guys down. I'm going to try and change this, not only for me, but for you guys as well. I have been starting to do new things though, as because of the high population of international students I have been able to practice my french quite more than expected. I have also been able to meet two Swedish students, both from Stockholm, with whom I have been able to convince into helping me work on my Swedish once I start learning more complex things.

I've also been able to try new sports like Rugby, which seems to be very popular because of the high population of students from the UK. A lot of my family seems to have played it at one point or another and I know my mom won't like it but maybe she'll consider letting me play when I get back? I know you're reading this mom so please let me play! Anyways, today ended up being a little different than normal with the addition of a study session on the main green with my friend Caleb. It didn't last long but I got to finish a good amount of my homework and realize that Classical music is very soothing when doing something stressful like homework. In fact right now I'm listening to Out of It All by Helen Jane Long, which is really helping me to relax

Besides that the day hasn't really changed much except for the finale being a huge card game that I can't quite remember the name of. All I can remember is that it was super fast-paced and that there was A LOT of yelling and screaming going on. I decided to try and stay away from this heated game as much as possible and just take pictures of it from the side instead. It turned 11 before the game could finish though and so many people went back to there dorms unhappy, with a few winners of the previous games holding their heads high. Speaking of holding heads high I don't know how much longer I'll be able to do that as I have to get up early tomorrow to finish my homework and workout. I bid you all a bon nuit et adieu! Jusqu'a a la prochaine fois!

  1. Jack, glad you are getting to practice your French with some native speakers! Il faut pratiquer pour progresser.

My youngest sister played rugby for UC Davis and absolutely loved it. But it is quite dangerous, so Mom has a point there.
